Ausiàs Cebolla (Ausiàs Josep Cebolla Martí) is a Professor of Psychology at the Universitat de València and a researcher in mindfulness, meditation, and positive psychology. He works to ground mindfulness in solid scientific research and link contemplative traditions with modern clinical practice. His studies focus on the clinical use of mindfulness-based interventions, especially for depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.
He wrote one of the first Spanish doctoral theses on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). He also examines how mindfulness works at a biological level, including its effects on markers such as oxytocin and empathy. He co-authored Mindfulness y ciencia: De la tradición a la modernidad and has helped develop structured well-being programs based on contemplative practices.
The webinar will explore the scientific and biological underpinnings of mindfulness, explaining the
psychological and physiological processes that occur when people meditate. Instead of just discussing what
mindfulness is, the session will focus on the underlying machinery—how these ancient practices alter brain
chemistry, lower clinical symptoms like anxiety, and foster qualities like empathy. It bridges the gap between
historical contemplative traditions and modern, evidence-based clinical psychology.
